A COMPLETE COLLAPSE

It can sound extreme to say an entire system of disbelief can collapse in a day, but it’s not extreme. The Lord can collapse these systems quickly and in ways that are beyond human imagination. Our best efforts cannot bring about a complete collapse of anything. We can only cooperate with God and watch what He does.

A complete collapse happened in Jericho when over a million Israelites were told to march around the city for seven days. Jericho was only a few acres in size, but it appeared impenetrable, except for God. Archaeological excavations of Jericho reveal the city had double walls. Some estimate the walls to have been over 30 feet tall. To have been surrounded by the mass of the entire Israelite population would have been both amazing and terrifying to see from the perspective of those inside the walls.

When the Israelites walked around the city in silence it was an overwhelming mass of people. Just their silent marching around the city shook the earth. On the seventh day, the people shouted at Joshua’s command and the walls of the city fell, “When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in” (Joshua 6:5).

Since the double walls had all fallen all at once, each Israelite walked straight into the city from wherever they stood when the event began. Without the intervention of God, the city would not have fallen.

We have entered a unique and pivotal time in history. Some things will not change without God’s dramatic intervention. While we must cooperate with God in whatever He asks us to do, it will ultimately be His hand that will bring down those things that stand in the way of His will. Nations and kingdoms will be brought down along with the systems of greed and corruption that support them. Dramatic change is on the horizon.

When God begins this dismantling process, each of us, like it was for the Israelites, will walk straight ahead into the rubble from wherever we were standing when God began His dismantling process. No matter where we find ourselves when this move of God begins, each of us has been divinely positioned to do our part. We will walk over the rubble of what stood in the way of God’s promise of freedom and hope.
