The Church is more diverse than our favored theology or modes of fellowship could imagine. We are at our strongest and most impactful when we do not walk in lockstep with each other, but as one, afford each other the freedom to become a unique manifestation of God’s presence.

Paul wrote to the Ephesians about this diversity. “God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 3:10). 

The word “variety” in vs. 10, has been translated as “manifold”, “multifaced”, and “diverse.” In the Greek language, it means “many-sided.” There is more than one valid side or expression of the Church. 

Our diversity is a weapon of spiritual warfare used by God to challenge the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms who desire to control people using a religious spirit to create sectarianism and division. Without a singularity of love expressed in a wide spectrum of diversity, the Church becomes disempowered and derailed from its mission to reach all people in all cultures. Our only common bond is the bond of love. All else is subject to diversity. 

Be willing to embrace the power of our God-created uniqueness. Allow fellow believers to see and interpret God’s presence from their unique position in the Kingdom.  When this happens we become mighty in the hands of God.
