We become evidence of God’s transforming power when we believe in Jesus and His teaching. That alignment marks us and will take our faith into dangerous territory because hell does not want us to become a living advertisement of Jesus’ power. Hell will do anything to thwart the message of our changed lives.
After Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, we don’t always think about what happened to Lazarus. He became aligned with Jesus as living evidence of the miracle. He became a target for the religious leaders—something they had to silence and destroy.
Because Lazarus was the living evidence that Jesus had performed such an astounding miracle, Scripture reveals what happened next, “When all the people heard of Jesus’ arrival, they flocked to see him and also to see Lazarus, the man Jesus had raised from the dead. Then the leading priests decided to kill Lazarus, too, for it was because of him that many of the people had deserted them and believed in Jesus. (John 12: 9-11).
After Lazarus walked out of the tomb, he became a marked man – evidence of the Lord’s power and authority. His presence was causing people to desert the message of the religious leaders and align with Jesus. The religious leaders were losing control over the people. It was that loss of control that motivated them to try to kill Jesus and anyone who became evidence of His authority.
Because as believers we are the living and breathing evidence that Jesus has changed our lives, we will face the same threat. Our alignment with Jesus will be met by threats from hell that want to destroy our faith in Him, and at times, even our lives.
When we believe in Jesus, we become marked people. Don’t be surprised by what the enemy tries to do to you to silence your witness of Jesus. Those threats are part of a life of faith and something we should expect when we become a living witness of Jesus Christ.
