Jan and I were discussing the Church and how each of us has a unique part to play. As we spoke, I saw the image of a symphony conducting a concert. There were all kinds of instruments present. Violins stroked beautiful notes along with clarinets, saxophones, oboes, cellos, and an entire brass section. Each musician was playing their assigned part as the song progressed. Standing in the back of the orchestra, I saw a lone percussionist.
The percussionist was standing holding two large cymbals waiting for the moment when they would clash a single note on their cymbals. The percussionist was unlike the others who played throughout the presentation in a succession of notes and movements. The percussionist stood still waiting until his note appeared on the score of music. When the percussionist struck their single note, it was loud, and stark, and noted a crescendo in the presentation.
Some of you appear to be doing little to add to the Lord’s spiritual symphony that He is playing through the Church. You are very focused on the spiritual sheet music God has given to you. You are waiting for your time to strike the cymbals of truth under the direction of the Lord, your conductor.
You are a very important part of the Lord’s presentation. Without your single note, the music will be incomplete. Wait for your note to appear. Do not lay down your cymbals. Stay focused on the music. What the Lord will speak through you will mark a strategic moment in God’s Kingdom.
As you wait to strike your note, it will not be an insignificant sound. God will empower it. “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires” (Hebrews 4:12).
Something else will happen with the sound created by a single word of truth spoken at a precise moment. We will see the Lord move and begin to fulfill His prophetic promises because He said “I carry out the predictions of my prophets!” (Isaiah 44:26).
When we speak a single word of God’s truth in a precise assigned moment, the power of Heaven will be revealed and with that word will come the fulfillment of the prophecies the Lord has spoken to the Church.
