Yesterday, something happened that if left to a natural course of events would cause concern for me. Before I responded, I went for a walk. While on the walk, I didn’t know how to pray. So, I prayed in the Spirit. Only God knew what I was praying for. By the end of the walk, the grip of what was taking hold of my thinking had diminished. I realized what I was dealing with was not the issue itself. It was a matter of my faith. I needed to shift my thinking from fear and its imagined outcome to a place of belief where I would see God demonstrate His faithfulness on my behalf.
In each generation, we will see the faithful love of God demonstrated in ways not imagined when fear is in control of our thinking. While the challenges to our faith will arise, we have a promise from the Lord, “The godly will see these things and be glad, while the wicked are struck silent” (Psalm 107: 42).
The “these things” in verse 42 was a record of God’s interventions in generations past that recorded His provision and deliverance. God’s ability and desire to deliver His people have no expiration date. I took these verses to heart.
When fear and concern arise in this life, we need to give those feelings to the Lord and allow Him to migrate our thinking toward a place of faith. Only in a mind filled with faith can we trust our choices. For those who choose to allow God to shift their thinking from fear to faith, a promise from the Lord is fulfilled. “Those who are wise will take all this to heart; they will see in our history the faithful love of the Lord” (Psalm 107:42-43).
Allowing the Lord to shift our thinking from fear to faith will open our spiritual eyes to see “in our history” things not seen by eyes blinded by fear. The act of remembering God’s faithfulness in the past keeps our eyes open to see what He plans to do in the future of our still-developing history.
