This week, the news media reported that an immense swarm of Ukrainian drones destroyed military targets deep inside Russia. Russia has also used drones in this war. The release of drones during combat looks like a flock of angry birds attacking their targets.

A shift in tactics of warfare is taking place. Warfare is beginning to display new technologies that resemble scenes from a futuristic movie.

While the world is amazed by the power of these new technologies, spiritual warfare remains unchanged across time because it is fought in the heavenly realms, not in a place influenced by new earthly tactics and weaponry. As the world’s concept of warfare evolves, what has worked in spiritual warfare in the past has remained unchanged over time.

Paul wrote, “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world” (II Corinthians 10:3-4). We have been called to battle using weapons not of this world. They are far superior to our most advanced earthly weapons. Our weapons are prayer, obedience, and trusting in the truth of God’s word.

In another letter, Paul wrote, “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). That kind of warfare takes place in the unseen realm, in the second heaven where demonic spirits are manipulating entire populations on Earth.

Our spiritual warfare should be focused on these demonic rulers in the unseen realm and the spirits that control them. Our warfare will break the power of these demonic forces that have been exhibited on Earth in a never-ending display of wars that are taking place across the globe.

Do not think lightly of the power of spiritual warfare. It has the power and the authority to change the world, something an earthly war with all its advanced technologies can never do.
