There’s a lot of social noise being made in our world. Each voice in the noisy crowd demands that we follow its agenda. When the increasing noise of a fearful crowd reaches a fever pitch, the Lord is asking us to pay special attention to His voice. The noise indicates a transition is taking place.

As a transition was taking place in God’s Kingdom between the ministry of John the Baptist and Jesus, the Lord said, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!” (Matthew 11:15.)

The command of Jesus to listen requires that we remain close to the truth of God’s word and be open to obeying the impulses of the Spirit. Doing those two things will position us to hear the voice of God in a season of transition and, as a result, understand what the Lord is saying.

Today, there are many voices speaking to us from a noisy and unsettled culture. But only one voice, the voice of God’s Spirit, reveals the truth. We can shut our ears to the Lord’s voice and follow the noise, or we can be spiritually courageous and stand alone before the noisy crowd and speak God’s truth. We can do this because hearing the truth will help us understand what is happening around us.

This is a time in our history for God’s people to tune their ears to hear the still, small voice of God. That still, small voice is conveying a message that will only be heard by those who have tuned out the noise and made themselves ready to hear what the Lord is saying. That kind of hearing will bring a new understanding of what the Lord is doing as a transition is affecting the nations and creating uncertainty. Hearing God’s voice has always been the way forward.
