AS NATIONS GATHER FOR WAR

As nations gather for a possible war in the Middle East, we need to be reminded of something. God is the only one we can trust when these conflicts take place. That reminder will keep us safe as conflicts multiply. Where we place our trust will reveal that God is our deliverer, not the gathering forces of military might.

Under the leadership of Moses and Aaron, the people of God, who had lived as slaves in Egypt, had no military strength. These enslaved people were delivered from the control of the Egyptian nation by the hand of God and set out on a course en route to the Promised Land. Moses recorded their journey in detail, noting where they had camped along the way.

They set out from the city of Rameses in early spring – on the fifteenth day of the first month – on the morning after the first Passover celebration. “The people of Israel left defiantly, in full view of all the Egyptians” (Numbers 33:3). Only God could arrange such a defiant departure of an enslaved people.

As the Egyptians were burying their firstborn sons, “The Lord had defeated the gods of Egypt that night with great acts of judgment!” (vs. 4).

All that we see happening on the world stage at this moment is a spiritual battle. The real focus of any earthly conflict lies much deeper than we first imagined. To the discerning, the Lord will reveal the unseen forces that are at play, puppeteering the armies engaged in conflict.

This is a battle against demonic gods. It’s not just a battle of nation against nation. Most of the Church misses what is happening and assigns blame for these conflicts to a natural interpretation. That natural interpretation will limit their ability to understand what is taking place, focusing solely on human interpretations of wars and rumors of war.

The defiant departure of Israel from Egypt could only happen if the Israelites relied on God and trusted Him for their deliverance. They had nothing to offer to expedite their departure from Egypt. They were dependent on God alone to make it happen.

This is a time in our history to once again put our trust in God and nothing else. Only He can lead us to a place of freedom – a freedom not accomplished by human strategy and mighty armies, but by the blood of Jesus.

God’s definition of a victory is very different than the most advanced battle plans of man: “The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord” (Proverbs 21:31).

As it was with the Israelites’ departure from Egypt, their departure was based on their trust in God. That trust will help us rightly interpret what is happening in this perilous time in human history.

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God” (Psalm 20:7).
