The most dangerous person to the works of darkness is a person who has resolved to believe in the truth of Scripture. That resolve makes them believe what is unbelievable and do what is unthinkable. That choice can create division within the Church where people have chosen to believe compliance and acquiescence to evil is an act of love.
A dangerous person the Lord will use is not always noticed when a spiritual conflict begins and a confrontation with truth emerges. They will be like David who was tending sheep and running errands to supply the Israelite army on the front lines of the conflict with Goliath and the Philistines. The giant shouted, “’I defy the armies of Israel today! Send me a man who will fight me!’ When Saul and the Israelites heard this, they were terrified and deeply shaken’” (I Samuel 17:10). No one stepped forward to meet the challenges. This taunting went on for forty days.
As David was making one of his deliveries, he heard the taunts of Goliath and questioned why this was being allowed. When David heard the mockery of Goliath and the Philistine army, something clicked in David’s mind. He became a dangerous person to the works of the enemy.
After his brother’s dismissal of David’s offer to defend the Lord and trying on Saul’s ill-fitting armor, he went forward with what he knew – a sling. As David advanced toward Goliath, he picked up a rock and flung it into Goliath’s forehead defeating the giant. “When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they turned and ran” (vs. 51).
It only takes one dangerous person of faith to turn an army of hell on its heels. Following those single acts of faith and courage will come a release of faith and courage in those who stood by and listened to the enemy’s taunts and did nothing. It will fulfill the admonition of Paul when he addresses the subject of spiritual warfare, “Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power” (Ephesians 6:10).
Our calling is to be dangerous to the works of hell even if we are the only ones willing to confront displays of evil that mock the Lord and His people.
Powerful word!
