We need to be careful of what we attach the word “believe” to because as the title of this message indicates, we can believe a lie embedded in our false belief thinking it to be true. 

The word “believe”, as it is used in Scripture, is attached primarily to the name of Jesus. The word was used almost 400 times in the New Testament. When our belief is attached to anything apart from Jesus it will contain a lie embedded somewhere in our belief system that will eventually deceive us and lead us astray. 

As the world becomes more complicated and at times more confusing in its complexity, what we choose to attach our beliefs to becomes more important. When it seems impossible to imagine the Lord could intervene and turn evil into good, it will be our belief in Jesus that will make the impossible possible.

“Because you believed, it has happened” (Matthew 8:13).
