What would your response be if the first major headlines for the year 2023 read as follows- “Gavin Newsom accepts the role of Vice President of the United States after the unexpected resignation of Kamala Harris.” Later in that same year, the headlines changed to read, “President Biden resigns due to deteriorating health concerns, and Vice President Newsom is sworn in as the next President of the United States.”
We are living in unusual times. The unexpected is always possible and present. Whatever takes place that shakes the status quo does not alter the fact that Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords, is seated on the most powerful of all thrones. He is the ultimate authority. He alone determines the course of human history.
In the 14th chapter of John’s gospel, Jesus said to His disciples, “Let not your hearts be troubled.” We may soon enter troubling times just as the early disciples experienced when the world as they knew it was turned upside down. In all the potential cultural change and transition, Jesus remains sovereign over all that transpires in this world. No human influence can alter that reality. Be at peace. Our trust in the Lord will become a profound witness in a troubled world.
