When it appeared that wickedness was on the rise without restraint and limitation, the Lord has always been faithful to make Himself known: “We thank you, O God! We give thanks because you are near” (Psalm 75:1). The Lord has always been near to His people. He will make His presence known in ways we thought impossible. Our thankfulness is evidence of where we have placed our hope.
The Lord has always had a plan in place to redeem individuals and nations, especially when His redemption seemed out of reach. God said, “At the time I have planned, I will bring justice against the wicked. When the earth quakes and its people live in turmoil, I am the one who keeps its foundations firm” (vs. 2-3). The continued stability of that foundation is the result of the execution of God’s justice.
Our preferences expressed by our vote, do not direct the hand of God. What is happening is the result of a choice God has made: “It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall” (vs. 7).
Today, the Lord is certifying the decision of who will lead our nation. From the beginning of time, Jesus had been certified as the one who would lead His Church. He has always been near to us even when that nearness seemed distant in times when injustice ruled our nation and turmoil was on the rise.
When we feel the weakest and our efforts to uphold the truth seem ineffective, the Lord will step in at just the right moment to express His will. As a result, a turnaround will happen like an evil boomerang returning to its sender and striking the sender, not the target of their censorship and dismissal, “For God says, ‘I will break the strength of the wicked, but I will increase the power of the godly’” (vs.10).
The evidence of that breaking has arrived. When our efforts to pursue God’s truth and His holiness seem ineffective, the Lord will break the strength of those who have been committed to the plans of evil. In that breaking, He will increase the power of His people to begin a process of redemption and reformation that no evil plan can thwart. It was not our efforts alone that caused this to happen. It was the will of God that was planned in eternity for this time in history. As a result, this move of God will change our course and reveal a new way forward.
Yes and amen! The Lord is always the Lord in every situation!
