A few years ago, Jan and I learned an important principle. Wherever we go to minister, we arrive carrying Jesus’ blessing. That understanding is not just for the times we are asked to speak somewhere. It applies to all aspects of our lives. We came to this understanding from what was spoken about Jesus during His triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

“Many in the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others spread leafy branches they had cut in the fields. Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting, ‘Praise God! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!’” (Mark 11:8-9).

What motivated our different way of thinking was the reality that we are coming with a blessing because we come in the name of the Lord. While Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem was addressed specifically to Him, the coming and going of those of us who are His disciples also carry the same blessing that was given to Jesus. We are on assignment to carry His anointing and His blessing wherever we go.

Many times, when Jan and I approach a city limit sign of the place where we have been asked to minister, we say out loud, “We are coming in the name of the Lord, and we are carrying His blessing.” We even say that phrase when we go to visit someone we already know.

This perspective changes our mindset and what we will do upon our arrival. We arrive understanding that the blessing of the Lord has gone before us, preparing the way for our arrival and allowing Him to do as He wishes in and through us. That understanding has changed everything.
