Creative miracles take place when something is created out of nothing. These kinds of miracles have been rare in our day, but are an essential part of our faith. Creative miracles remind us of God’s mighty power.
I chuckle at people who clone something or create a new life form from existing elements and attribute God-like attributes to their lab results. These results are generated in laboratories from existing elements and transferred into petri dishes or laboratory wombs. While impressive, they are not a creative miracle.
A true creative miracle happens when nothing in this realm is part of creating the miracle. It’s like inviting a scientist into an empty room and saying, “Create a horse. You only have your word, nothing else, to initiate the miracle.” They could stand in that empty room for the rest of their lives and never see a horse.
All creation was spoken into existence by the word of God, and any creative miracle happens in the same way. “Then God said…” (Genesis 1:3) was a repeated command the Lord spoke as His creation came into existence from nothing.
When a follower of Jesus speaks in God’s name and calls forth something from non-existent elements, it is called a creative miracle. To participate in these miracles, we must believe they are possible and then be willing to call them forth with a commanding prayer empowered by the God who can do all things, even what seems impossible to a natural mind.
