Some of the most intense truths in Scripture are the final words of Jesus to His disciples after the Last Supper. His words were spoken in recognition of a world that rejects the truth and persecutes those who follow Him.
We want to get along with all people, but a line is drawn when we proclaim Jesus the Anointed One as the only way to God the Father. That belief definitely puts us in the enemy’s sights. The need to stand firm, endure, and overcome the assaults of hell is a given.
Jesus knew all about the struggles we would experience. We carry the secret to life, yet we still compromise because of FOMO—”fear of missing out.” It is a fear of rejection and not belonging, fear of loss and losing control, fear of conflict. So, out of self-preservation, we blend into the culture, with few distinctives.
Jesus told His disciples, “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid” (John 14:27).
“If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you” (15:18-19).
Jesus did not dismiss the reality of hell’s plans. “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” (16:33).
There is no human in the world, including me, who is without trials, sorrows, trouble, fear, or anger. Jesus is telling the Church that we are not exempt from this spiritual battle when we become the Adversary’s target.
Only with Jesus can I experience my purpose for being here.
Only with Jesus can I learn to have peace of mind and heart in the face of trouble.
Only with Jesus do I have hope and a future, regardless of my sorrows.
Only with Jesus can I experience true and lasting love.
Only with Jesus can I take heart because He has overcome the world.
Only Jesus.
Beautiful reminder, thank you.
