Affixing the label of misinformation to an opposing point of view is a tactic of control. It presumes people are ignorant, unable to make their own informed decisions. Whenever a government or private entity decides what is acceptable and limits free expression and inquiry, we have entered treacherous waters as a culture. This is a spiritual issue often misdiagnosed by some in the Church who think love can only be expressed by unthinking submission to all forms of social control.
The motto of ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) is “All Truth is God’s Truth.”
God’s instruction through Zechariah is to love truth and to hate false oaths.
Great reminder, Garris.
When civil government labels a person’s viewpoint as misinformation and then actively seeks to banish that viewpoint from the public square, it is an abuse of power and outside the scope of its authority. But a private institution, however deceived or incorrect, has the liberty to control the use of its platform or the vehicle which it created. I think the liberty to make wrong choices without our scope of authority is the essence of the gift of liberty. We have liberty to reject truth, and God, which is the foundational to choice. Without the choice to reject, we cannot choose to accept – we are robots.
I meant to say “within our scope of authority”
love this.
