DISCARDED AND ABANDONED

On a recent hike, I discovered the discarded door from an old, abandoned car. Over the years, the door had become a target. It was filled with bullet holes. The shot-up door resembles some of you who feel discarded and shot through by betrayal and abandonment.

The Lord has something to say to you. His word will be like the word He spoke over Jerusalem following the complaint they made regarding their condition.”The Lord has deserted us; the Lord has forgotten us” (Isaiah 49:14).

In response to that complaint, the Lord answered, “Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you!” (vs. 15).

In our weakest state, the Lord has a place to restore us, like someone restoring an abandoned vehicle, making it look better than when it first came off the assembly line. Our restored life will hold greater value, like a restored classic car. It will become a living testimony of God’s redeeming and restoring craftsmanship.

When the Lord completes His work of restoration, “Then you will know that I am the Lord. Those who trust in me will never be put to shame” (vs. 23).

We will become a living testimony of the Lord’s redeeming and restorative power, giving hope to those who have suffered the pain of being discarded and abandoned, letting them know the Lord has not forgotten them.
