EVALUATING YEAR-END PROPHECIES

In the week leading up to the New Year, voices within the Church are prophesying what will happen in 2026. Some of these words are from God. Others are declaring what they hoped would happen and call it prophecy.

Paul was speaking to Jews who needed to be convinced that Jesus was the Messiah. Then Paul quoted from the prophet Habakkuk, who said of the Lord, “For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it” (Acts 13:41).

Habakkuk had preceded those words with something that described the attitude of their nation that seems to align with our time in history, “Why must I watch all this misery? Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight. The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts. The wicked far outnumber the righteous, so that justice has become perverted” (Habakkuk 1:3-4).

As the culture and some within the Church are overwhelmed by what they see happening, people are seeking a word from the Lord. And the Lords wants to do something so unusual that we “wouldn’t believe even if someone told us about it.”

As prophecies about the end of the year are emerging, listen for words that confront and challenge our current understanding of life and God’s Kingdom. Look for words we might not agree with but should be accepted. Those words won’t always fit into established prophetic protocol or what was spoken in the past. This season is different.

God is “doing something in your own day” that was previously unknown until He revealed it to His prophets. These prophets heard Him speak something that violated the prophetic status quo. They were courageous enough to say something that, to the ears of most believers, sounded unbelievable, but will prove, in the coming year, to be true.
