Wisdom, the biblical kind, keeps us spiritually safe because we live our lives in line with God’s truth. This wisdom is what Solomon wrote about in the book of Proverbs. God’s wisdom serves a purpose.
“Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair. These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge, and discernment to the young. Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables, the words of the wise and their riddles” (Proverbs 1:2-6).
Exploring God’s wisdom and letting it define our lives creates a solid foundation. Without that wise foundation, we will become fools who live a life that despises God’s wisdom and rejects the discipline it offers: “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline” (vs. 7).
Following God’s wisdom will lead us along a path that the unwise will reject. It will keep us safe because we are living with an integrity that the world cannot see. Their blindness will mock, deny, and dismiss true wisdom.
“So, follow the steps of the good, and stay on the paths of the righteous. For only the godly will live in the land, and those with integrity will remain in it. But the wicked will be removed from the land, and the treacherous will be uprooted” (Proverbs 2:20-22).
This is why we should seek first the anchoring of God’s wisdom expressed in Scripture before we act or speak. Seeking an agreement or acceptance with any individual or group that abandons God’s wisdom will cause us to follow a failed way. A lack of wisdom will also cause us to be uprooted from the path of truth, leaving us without God’s direction.
Seeking wisdom and living a life aligned with God’s truth can be challenging when so many who profess to know God are following worldly wisdom and not the wisdom of God. God’s wisdom will cause us to stand in opposition to any form of groupthink and its resulting lifestyle. Wisdom will define for us a narrow path that will reveal our integrity with the Lord and His word.
To refuse correction, is to live your life in error.
