Where we are willing to stand in our life of faith will reveal the condition of our hearts. In that place, if our heart is aligned with the heart of God, we will come to realize we would rather serve God in a place of humility than pursue the things of this world and not see His goodness.

“Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked” (Psalm 84:10). Our humility before God satisfies us in ways that pride can never attain because humility places us near to Him. The goodness of God can only be seen through the lens of humility.

To be willing to be a doorkeeper in the house of God is a place of revelation and protection, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” (vs. 11).

To stand near to God in humility is a place of revelation where the light of God’s truth will reveal to us what matters most to Him. In that place of illuminated revelation, He will protect us from things we cannot see if we stand in a place of pride that will eventually destroy our faith. In that place of revelation and protection is where we will experience both His favor and His honor.

To stand before God in humility will bring blessings that are sourced in our ability to trust Him, “Blessed is the one who trusts in you” (vs. 12). Experiencing one day in that place of humility will begin to redefine everything in this life, especially our understanding of the goodness of God.
