GOD’S UNLIMITED POWER

It’s important to think supernaturally. That kind of thinking prepares us to do what God asks of us now and in the future. It also defeats feelings of despair when life is moving and changing so fast that we want to give up in the face of an unimagined acceleration. Thinking supernaturally also gives us hope that what seems impossible by human standards is always possible with God.

I listen frequently to social and economic forecasters. These are not political hacks. They are analysts of data and history. I listen to these people because I want to be aware of what the future holds, so I can be ready to be used by God in that future.

I just listened to a commentator discussing the immense, currently unavailable power needed to run the next generation of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and its ongoing developments.

These demands for AI’s power are so immense that they will drain most of the resources our current power resources provide. That is a significant problem. It would take years to plan and build larger power stations to handle the demand. A parallel issue: Even if power were available now, our current power grid is old and outdated and could not handle the increased demand.

The Church is not affected by a limited supply of energy on Earth. When the world does not have enough energy to support our lifestyle, it will be a time when God will move more powerfully, demonstrating His unlimited heavenly power supply.

As we try to power our Towers of Babel, God rules far and above all we can think or imagine. Paul said it so well, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20).

After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to His disciples.  The disciples “Stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder” (Luke 24:41).  It was one of those “I can’t believe this is true“ kind of moments. Jesus said, “It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem” (Luke 24:47). With the name of Jesus would come supernatural demonstrations of God’s power, no matter where we fall on the timeline of history.

Then Jesus made a request of His disciples, “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven” (vs.49).

It would fulfill what the prophet Joel spoke about regarding the future, when God would pour out His Spirit on all people, and it would forecast what would happen on the Day of Pentecost. It also meant that, at any time in the future, when the Lord’s followers faced insurmountable obstacles, God’s power would be there, ready to be released.

The power of God will always be unimaginable, even if future technologies are beyond our current imagination. God is always at work in our future. He knows what we will need when life happens over the heads of our current thinking. When the Lord reveals His power in the future, we will be like His first disciples, who “Stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder.”
