As I looked across our living room, I saw the history of entertainment and news represented in the last hundred years. The old antique radio belonged to Jan’s parents. It was what families would gather around a hundred years ago to get current news or listen to an old radio program. Televisions followed adding a visual representation. Atop the old radio represents the emergence of tapes and then CDs and finally our smart TV that sits atop them all broadcasting information via a Wi-fi connection.
As I noticed the progression of our technology, a thought came to my mind. While technology has some benefits, what we need to hear will not first come from our advancing technology. It will come from the Lord. He has always been speaking to His people across time and covenants. His voice is always present whether one is tech-savvy or not.
As our world advances into the unknown realms of AI (Artificial Intelligence) a person who is attuned to the voice of God will never be left behind. The technologies are only vehicles of transmission, not the source. As people move deeper into the use of advancing technologies, the most backward-appearing person who is in touch with the voice of God will be miles ahead of the greatest advancements in our technology.
As I look across our living room and see a visible representation of our communication history, it is the voice of God, not our advancements, where we will find our confidence and our direction for what may come in the future. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice” (John 10:27). His statement holds true no matter where our lives fall on the line of human progression.
