When so much in the world is out of order and as nations plot wars against each other, it can appear disheartening. But God has a plan for His people. David wrote, “Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living” (Psalm 27: 13).
David laid out how God will prepare us to see His goodness. “Teach me how to live, O Lord. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me” (vs. 11). We need to be taught how to live life, especially when people oppose us, and we are tempted to lash out.
We think we have life all figured out, but we don’t. Only the Lord can prepare us for how to live. As the Lord teaches us, He will lead us along the right path, walking us through the spiritual ambushes set along the path of our lives.
“Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence” (vs 12). It was then that David made the statement, “I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living” (vs.13).
As the Lord makes plans to reveal His goodness, we have this instruction, “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord” (vs. 14).
To be in a place to see God’s goodness will require three things of us – patience, bravery, and courage. Our patience requires that we yield to God’s timing, not our impatience. Patience positions our faith. Bravery is a spiritual and emotional attitude that we need to carry into unstable times. Because we have been patient and carry a brave heart, when the time comes to engage with people and institutions, we will have the courage required to act upon God’s truth.
There’s a contemporary saying that says, “It’s not over until it’s over.” For us, it means nothing is final until God reveals His goodness. The world has been in a perpetual state of upheaval since Creation. That upheaval cannot stand against a display of God’s goodness.
