KNOWING OUR BOUNDARY

Every life has spiritual boundaries. The Lord sets these boundaries. They are not limitations; they are definitions where our spiritual authority functions best in concert with God’s empowerment. To not know the boundary of our Kingdom assignment will cause us to waste our time and open us up to situations of jeopardy and unnecessary conflict.

After the Lord gave Israel all the land that He swore to give their ancestors, they settled into their various tribal assignments. Once settled, the Lord gave the people rest after all the campaigns of the conquest of the land. After allotting portions to the various tribes, “Not a single one of all of the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfilled; everything he had spoken came true” (Joshua 21:45).

While every believer is free to move and speak anywhere the Lord leads, after seasons of walking with Him we will develop the ability to hear His voice with increased clarity regarding the boundary of our assignment. Hearing the Lord’s voice will keep us from violating those boundaries and suffering unnecessary consequences. David violated his boundary and the sin with Bathsheba took place. When that sin happened, it was in a time “when kings go to war” (Il Samuel 11:1). David sent his army out to battle “but David stayed in Jerusalem” (vs. 1). David’s inability to hear the voice of God was magnified because he was out of place in his assignment.

A unique peace and satisfaction come to a person who has allowed God to define the boundary of their Kingdom assignment – even defining boundaries within the larger boundary of their assignment. That peace allows us to say “no” to what may appear as an opportunity but will lead us to a place of compromise.
