From time to time, the prophetic community will experience controversy within its ranks. That controversy happens because we think we need to always reveal the latest revelation each time we open our mouths. That assumption can lead us into error, even for proven prophets, if we do not have a baseline for our prophecy.
John the Baptist, the last of the Old Covenant prophets, was sent to reveal the coming of Jesus. “God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world” (John 1: 6-9).
John, like every prophet who would follow him in the New Covenant, is a witness of the light, Jesus Christ. There are times when the gift of prophecy can feel like we are shouting from a prophetic wilderness. John described what his ministry sounded like: “I am a voice shouting in the wilderness, ‘Clear the way for the Lord’s coming!‘” (vs. 23). Prophecy clears the way and helps us see the Lord in each season of life. That sight is the essence of the prophetic gift.
All that we prophesy in this New Covenant must have a revelation of Jesus at its foundation, not another human opinion wrapped in prophetic tones. When error surfaces in the prophetic community, our first step of readjustment is to come back to the Lord and ask him where we went astray in our calling.
If God has called you to prophesy, intimacy with God is your greatest prophetic asset. Intimacy with the Lord and knowing how to express His heart becomes a place of healing and recalibration for those who have wandered away from His purpose to entertain and declare things not in line with His will.
The true wildness company prophets of this day are nameless, faceless, and thoroughly crushed if they have made it this far. They are not without fault but should be very aware of their absolute bankrupt state without Christ’s constant support in mercies and grace. They should not go, do, or speak anything in this present hour except He bid them. Though unknown to the greater Body of the Lord, we have all seen their ministry already so now it is time that the world and the Church see His Ministry in full display through them one more time.
