When I wrote the book, Prayers from the Throne of God, the Lord gave me the most important ingredient for our prayers. That ingredient was to first discern the heart of God before we begin to pray. Without that understanding, we will not be praying the will of God. We will pray from fear or a lack of understanding of what we are praying about.

This kind of prayer is uttered from our heavenly position in Christ, where we now sit with Jesus on His throne at the right hand of the Father in Heaven.

“For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6). Our earthly prayers must begin from our resurrected position in Christ, or worry and fear will create prayers that have little impact.

Discerning God’s heart will lead us to the second element of prayers from the throne of God, which will decree God’s heart against those things that stand in the way of fulfilling His will. The third element is to prophesy into existence an in-the-moment revelation that will come for those who have discovered God’s heart and have tailored their prayers around that understanding.

The Church offers up many different kinds of prayers, but few are praying from an understanding of God’s heart. Without understanding that first and most critical step, we will pray from the restrictions of our undisciplined emotions.

Understanding God’s heart is where miracles are waiting to be revealed. Understanding His heart will give the Church the courage needed to decree unimagined outcomes and prophesy things into the moment not considered or imagined by those who have failed to discover God’s heart.
