Two choices will protect us in times of trouble: integrity and honesty. Holding onto what we know is true and right will place the outcome of our lives in God’s hands. It will be our place of safety.
David wrote about those things when his life and reputation were in jeopardy, “May integrity and honesty protect me, for I put my hope in you” (Psalm 25:21).
Integrity is moral uprightness when immorality has become the accepted norm. Honesty is how we deal with people because we are motivated by integrity. Without these two things at work in our lives, we will not experience the protection of the Lord.
Being an integrous and honest person often puts us at odds with those who have chosen to abandon integrity and honesty just to get what they want and live as they please.
To be a person of integrity who deals honestly with people requires a revelation from the Lord. David wrote earlier in Psalm 25 his foundational understanding of how this works, “Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me” (vs. 4-5).
A person who is motivated by integrity and honesty is someone who is responding to God’s truth. His truth instructs us on how to live. Following God’s truth will lead us through times when those elements are not being represented in the surrounding culture. God’s truth determines how we choose to live, how we will raise our family, how we make business decisions, and how we choose to vote.
When we respond to God’s truth by choosing to live a life of integrity and honesty, no matter the opposition we experience by making that choice, that choice will separate us from those who have abandoned those principles. As David wrote, that choice will be where we put our hope because we are trusting in God’s truth alone to save us. Living a life that responds to God’s truth will become our protection. If we abandon integrity and honesty it will make us vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy.
Integrity and honesty are acts of spiritual separation. When we make those choices, there will be times when we will find ourselves standing alone with God in His truth, but knowing we are being protected by the Lord because He is one who is leading us along a path of integrity and honesty – a path that will save us.
Yes and amen
I do enjoy your writings.
I am offering a suggestion to you instead of using the word “deal” when interacting with people.
A better word could be interacting ,conversation
