Today, I was in town taking care of a few errands. When I was driving out of a parking lot a new Ford Mustang GT was in line in front of me. I could hear the rumble of the exhaust and knew the driver would soon begin to accelerate and run the GT through its gears.
I turned down my radio and let the sound of the muscle car fill the interior of my car. It was soothing to a needy place in my soul. I tried to stay with the Mustang but after he dropped into second gear, he was gone, and I was left with the beautiful sound disappearing into the distance.
God knows how to refresh us when we need refreshing. He is happy to do this with things that don’t look or sound spiritual at first glance, but they have a deeply spiritual application when they enter our soul and bring healing. At that moment, I was grateful for the experience. A simple joy filled my thoughts as I drove home.
After the Mustang was gone, I said “Thanks, Lord” and turned the radio back on just as Stevie Ray Vaughan began to play his guitar instrumental “Lenny.” It was a good day to run errands.
