Someone or something is always working on us to get us to believe a lie. These are called spiritual psyops. A psyop, or psychological operation, is a planned operation aimed at influencing the emotions, motives, and behavior of individuals or groups.
The first psyop occurred in the Garden of Eden. “The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful, and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So, she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too” (Genesis 3:6).
Being convinced that something is true through a propagandized presentation is not the same as experiencing a revelation. Most of this convincing happens in our emotions and with our prejudices. It can lead to dire consequences for those who believe a lie and for all those who follow their deception.
The most damaging propaganda is not what’s revealed on the platforms of a political party or what is taking place within the existing social order or financial markets. It is much deeper.
Propaganda is a powerful tool that is used to persuade us to be and do things we might not have otherwise considered. The goal of propaganda is to enslave and destroy those who are not aware of its covert manipulation.
Be cautious about attaching premature, propagandized labels to what is happening around us. The current manifestation of propaganda is not the final word on truth. Only by the Spirit under the direction of God’s word can we discover what is true or false.
Jesus prayed for the Church in this way: “They do not belong to this world any more than I do. Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth” (John 17:17).
When our thinking becomes deranged by propagandized thinking, we will begin to believe the results of a propaganda campaign are the final representation of truth. It never is. As a result, we will become hardened in our opinion and follow the course of that propaganda to a disastrous end.
Psyops are being conducted within the Church. Peter wrote, “But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies” (II Peter 2:1).
John warned us, “Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world” (1 John 4:1).
Paul wrote, “But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light” (II Corinthians 11:14).
As clever and sophisticated as a spiritual psyops becomes, we have a safeguard against its manipulation: “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).
The Lord is revealing deeper truths about Scripture and the ways of the Spirit. Some of the assumptions we have been wrongly taught are being exposed by the Spirit. The victims of these psyops are typically the last to know they have been duped by a deceiving spirit.
Don’t give up on the victims of a psyop. They have a God-assigned appointment to experience real freedom if they are willing to see and hear what the Lord is revealing.
