THE DEEPER KIND OF INSIGHT

The deepest insight does not come from the highest forms of human intellect. It comes from insight provided by the Spirit. We cannot educate ourselves into that insight or belong to some spiritual in-crowd to gain it. It is a revelation from God who shows no partiality regarding human accomplishments.

The prophet Zephaniah wrote about the kind of life that opens the door to deeper revelation, “Seek the Lord, all who are humble, and follow His commands. Seek to do what is right to live humbly” (Zephaniah 2:3).

Zephaniah mentioned five things that open the door to this kind of revelation. Without these things at work in our lives, we will live in surface-level insight never going to that deep place where the deeper truths of God are revealed.

SEEK THE LORD

The direction of our lives is set by our pursuit of God at the expense of all things. To seek Him will narrow the focus of our lives offering us clarity about the decisions we make and the direction we take.

WALK IN HUMILITY

We are all subject to pride. Avoid any alliance or group that creates division based on the pride of human accomplishment or position. Pride will never reveal the heart of God.

FOLLOW HIS COMMANDS

Following the commands of God’s word or the unction of the Spirit is what leads us forward. Never allow groupthink and its censorship to silence your voice. Following the commands of God is what defines our life and directs our path.

DO WHAT IS RIGHT

When the people with whom we are in a relationship contemplate a turn toward what is wrong, those who choose to do what is right can turn an evil direction around and move it toward the will of God.  Making that choice requires courage.

LIVE HUMBLY

Living humbly is the opposite of living by the impulses of pride. Humility is what separates people within God’s Kingdom. Those who rise to the heights of Kingdom influence are the humble ones who have responded to life and its challenges with humility. Humble choices may not garner recognition from the world, but those choices gain God’s attention.

Living a life of faith requires that we shed the things the world considers important to embrace what is important to God. If we choose to live by what pleases the Lord, we will experience profound encounters with Him. We will also be used in ways our pride could never imagine.
