The devil is very adept at creating language for us to use that aligns with our prejudices and predispositions. This is why God’s word is our only safe lexicon for language. Only the truth of God’s word can keep us safe and distance us from the seduction of a well-crafted lie. Charlie Kirk died for speaking the truth, so have others across history who did the same.
The manipulation of language can cause a follower of Jesus to end up adopting a way of speaking that does not represent God’s Kingdom or its values. In other words, it doesn’t stir up the approved social dialogue. . At that point, the person will fall victim to the swaying minds and changing language of a culture. Truth, when presented with wisdom and at the direction of God’s Spirit, can apply across all human history and have a significant impact on the hearer.
We’ve been told to place value on human opinion, preaching yet another book report, or responding from the daily script from our favorite news agency, or blog host. It’s not the opinions of people, book reports, or what news channel we favor. God’s word is so powerful that it can cut deeply into a complex issues of life and get to the root of our troubles, bringing freedom whenever the truth is spoken in love.
We’ve been asked to hide God’s word in our hearts and nothing else: “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you” (Psalms 119:11).
If we yield to the invitation to swap the language of truth for a lie, we will have nothing to bring to a conversation of any redeeming value. Only God’s word has the power to change a life and anchor a nation to what is good and right in God’s eyes, and not drift away following human imaginations and spiritual fantasies.
