We’ve been told that it’s by always moving forward along a predictable and linear path that God will define our lives. There are times, however, when we will be called to step aside from that predictable path to follow an unexpected latitude of life we did not expect or see, that will radically change the course of our life. Our willingness to step aside from that predictable path to follow a contradictory latitude of life can bring a greater blessing and reveal the will of God for us and those affected by our choice.
There will be times when God will have us turn right or left to encounter His will, something not seen or experienced, by continuing to move forward without being open to change. It will blind us from seeing or hearing something new and different.
People may not understand our decision to take a different path, even challenge us for departing from what they expected from us, to follow the still small voice of God into unknown spiritual territory.
Some may be asked to abandon an expected educational path, others may return an engagement ring, and still others will make a turn that their detractors will label as a choice made by a confused mind. Following the voice of God is not always practical, measured, or accepted. It is simply an act of obedience.
When we follow the voice of God and turn away from an expected path of life, the Lord will confirm that we’ve made the right choice even when no one else agrees with our decision.
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it” Isaiah 30:21)
