THE PLACE OF OUR CONFIDENCE

Amid all the turmoil taking place within the Church, we are being given a gift. We have entered a time where the confidence of the Church is being tested and examined. In that examination, we will see who and what we have been following. At the end of that examination, we may be required to remove our connection with certain people and institutions who have displaced the Lord as their Savior.

“Do not put your trust in powerful people, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing” (Psalm 146: 3-4).

These verses apply to everyone, regardless of who they are or what position they hold. No person is exempt from the finality of death. The grave will be the end of their plans.

We have been created to desire a Savior. Where we place our confidence will determine who that Savior is and who or what we choose to follow.

Many things can affect where we place our confidence, including issues from our past, the line of theology we currently adopt, or any allegiances we have established.

None of those things can be our Savior. That only belongs to Jesus. Anything else, no matter how noble-sounding it is, can take His place. Where we place our confidence will determine whether we live a life of peace and hope or continue to live a life wrapped in the constraints of never-ending turmoil and doubt.

Our confidence in God stems from our realization of this one great truth: “He remains faithful forever” (vs. 6). That faithful God is the only one worthy of our confidence.  All other confidences will leave their plans in the grave.
