When we forget who we are and where we live, that forgetfulness can lead us into experiences and places we would never have gone had we understood our history. When people fail to understand their history and do not live up to their calling, certain things can happen that will destroy a person’s faith and the testimony we will leave behind.
THEY FORGOT THEIR FAITH IS A NOMADIC EXPERIENCE
“All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth.” (Hebrews 11:13).
Being a foreigner and a nomad will keep us from setting up roots in what this life has to offer. Our roots are only found in Christ, not in what his world has to offer.
THEY FORGOT THEY ARE GOD’S HOLY PRIESTS
“You are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests” (1 Peter 2:5).
On Earth, we have been given sacred priestly duties. God uses our obedience to those duties to construct our lives as His holy human temples.
THEY FORGOT THEY ARE IN A SPIRITUAL WAR
“Dear friends, I warn you as ‘temporary residents and foreigners’ to keep away from worldly desires that will wage war against your very souls” (1 Peter 2:11).
Our souls are the targets of hell’s attack. Most of the time, these attacks are not initially recognized. They are subtle deceptions that will lead us to greater sins that violate our Kingdom assignment.
When we forget that this life is only a time of transition and has certain assignments, we can think we are alone, isolated in history, and that aloneness puts us in jeopardy. Because of that lack of a linkage between past and present, we can miss the fact that we are just passing through this life to something better. That disconnection is a dangerous place to live.
“For I am a guest, a traveler passing through as my ancestors were before me” (Psalm 39:12).
MY PASSPORT IS ISSUED BY MY FATHER. WHEN I FACE,A NEW DIRECTION I CHECK IT TO SEE IT IS STAMPED WITH HIS APPROVAL.
I love the depths you take us to in your very brief devotionals. This is a Gold Star one as it is a reminder of our commission in His Kingdom.
