The photos of our wedding day have faded over time, but not the love God has given to us. It increases with each passing day.
Today, we celebrate 52 years as husband and wife. We didn’t get here by being perfect by any measure. We got this far by the spirit of forgiveness and by God’s grace that has filled our home, taking us far beyond our greatest failures.
The Lord’s word that He spoke to Paul has been the guiding principle for our marriage: “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness” (II Corinthians 12:9). When either of us is weak, God’s power is released. The Lord is the one who has strengthened and sustained our marriage. We give Him the glory.
Paul clarified what the Lord said to him. I put a personal spin on Paul’s words, “That’s why Jan and I can take pleasure in our weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that we suffer for Christ. For when one of us is weak, we can be strong together in the Lord, because we are one with each other and one with the Lord” (vs. 10).
If we respond to the issues of life and the challenges that have appeared in our marriage with grace and forgiveness, we can endure and overcome any obstacle set before us. That’s the reason why our marriage has lasted and prospered all these years. We thank God for every remaining day we have together. Our enduring marriage has been a miracle sent from God.
Yes my good friend, my blessing 61 years with my Nancy.
God bless you two on your special day! We are blessed to have had a season of life to be around you. Never will forget the plane ride back to Billings from Bend and how as we were all bouncing around in that little Cessna how you and Jan just enjoyed the ride. I am sure you two have gone through the bounces of life trusting in Gods grace to get to where you are at 52 years!
