The Lord reveals to each generation the unchanging nature of His character. In that revelation will come manifestations of His nature that may run contrary to popular and accepted theologies that have drifted from the foundation of truth. In those moments of revelation, it can become uncomfortable for some believers to realize God has not changed His nature or the substance of Scripture to accommodate them in their descent into immorality or error. He follows no human or human system. He remains the same forever.

The prophet Isaiah wrote this verse 700 years before the full canon of Scripture was complete “The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever” (Isaiah 40:8). This verse encompasses all of time, past, present, and future. For some, this verse is accepted as truth if it does not violate what they have been taught or assumed as truth. The forever reality of an unchanging God and His word will be an uncomfortable discovery for many as we engage in the first stages of The Rude Awakening that will precede The Great Awakening. All of us will be challenged when this unchanging God steps onto the world stage and demonstrates His unchanging nature and the forever validity of His word in new and unfamiliar terms. None of us will escape this reaffirmation of His forever consistent nature.

God remains the same across time, covenants, and generations. We are the ones who must change to conform to His unchanging nature and character, not Him. This is especially important because we are living in a generation that demands God, not us, to be the one who changes.
