Beware of “new evidence” that attempts to redefine ancient truth. This new evidence is different from understanding the context in which an issue occurred and needs to be rightly interpreted to bring understanding. New evidence that dismisses what has been understood for thousands of years is not new, it is a deception.
The mission of this new evidence is to lure us away from what has always been true and will continue to be true no matter what is presented to dislodge its reality. We are seeing this now in the area of human sexuality and the way of salvation.
Holding onto these ancient truths is not a stubborn, hard-nosed religious exercise. It keeps the truth of Scripture intact in our lives bringing anything “new” to that truth to evaluate its validity.
“History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Sometimes people say, ‘Here is something new!’ But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). The word “new” in this verse refers to things that have no firm basis in reality, a reality defined by the Lord, not by humans who present evidence that contradicts the truth of Scripture.
