UNTIL THE LORD MOVES

There is so much that needs to be redeemed in our world. Impingements on our freedoms and expressions of evil are increasing. Until the Lord moves, what should we do?

Any correction of a culture must be based on God’s timing, not our impatience regarding what we see happening, “At the time I have planned, I will bring justice against the wicked” (Psalm 75:2). Waiting for God’s justice, not more expressions of our impatience, is where our focus should be. In that waiting time the source of our worship will be revealed.

We see people, either in word or deed, daily defying God’s truth with increasing expressions of evil. The Lord warned those who defy Him, “Don’t raise your fists in defiance at the heavens or speak with such arrogance. For no one on earth—from east or west, or even from the wilderness—should raise a defiant fist (vs. 5-6). It is an overwhelming defiance of God and His truth that can push us out of our lane of faith and disempower our witness.

Until the Lord moves, our job is declaring what God has done and expressing our trust in Him with our praises, “But as for me, I will always proclaim what God has done; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob” (vs. 9).

As the tensions of this time in history increase, the Lord will move in ways beyond what we could think or imagine. The Lord said, “I will break the strength of the wicked, but I will increase the power of the godly” (Psalm 75:10). When we are feeling the weakest in the face of increasing evil, the Lord will empower us with unusual demonstrations of His power. That is why waiting for what God has planned is critical to a life of faith.

As we choose to thank God and praise Him in the waiting time, His power will be released in His people. It is in that demonstration of God’s empowerment that the Church will accomplish things our limited emotional response could not provide. That empowerment will happen because we focus on the Lord, not the evil that is occurring all around us.
