WAITING AND WATCHING IN FAITH

God’s word will never fail us, even if the passing circumstances of our lives seem to contradict its truth. Many have fallen away from their faith because they have abandoned the truth of Scripture and accepted human answers for eternal questions.

The Psalmist wrote, “I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word. I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn” (Psalm 130:5-6).

Counting on the Lord means relying on His truth and His ability to perform what He promised no matter what we see, hear, or think. As we wait for our night watch to end and our weariness wants us to quit early and abandon our post, that is the time when the fulfillment of God’s promise will appear. Our faithful waiting creates a longing in our hearts for what has been promised if we continue to stand on His word, not on our emotions or logical-sounding invitations to abandon our faith.

Reasons to abandon the promises of God’s word are increasing. Some reasons for abandonment sound logical to the natural mind. The truth of God’s word is not understood through human logic. It is seen and experienced through faith – a faith that accepts God’s truth even as the world, and some in the Church, have abandoned the truth and considered it foolish. All of Scripture, both the Old and New Testament, are true and faithful when understood in their context.

As we stand watch over our lives and the surrounding culture, we need to stay focused on God’s word. It has never failed anyone across the span of history if they remain faithful to what the Lord has promised. The steadfast nature of our faith is where miracles happen. Those who wait in faith for what God has promised will see the Lord do remarkable things.

A beautiful encouragement. The very things that seem against us, the long night of watching and waiting, are the things that will bring in the blessing that we are so earnestly desiring. Thank you Garris.
