It was almost 50 years ago when the Lord told me to stop reading the daily horoscope in our local newspaper. It wasn’t like I followed any advice offered. I was just curious. In all the years since I was given that instruction, I haven’t read another horoscope.
Scripture tells us “Do not act like the other nations, who try to read their future in the stars” (Jeremiah 10:2). At the time the Lord spoke to me, I didn’t know such a command existed. I simply obeyed the voice of the Lord.
Some may read this and think, “What’s the big deal? It’s just a horoscope.” I think the issue is this – who do I seek for advice? Because I am a child of God and filled with His Spirit, I can ask the God of Heaven for any advice I might need on how to live my life. Seeking the Lord is a defining part of the process of Lordship. According to my horoscope, I am listed under the sign of Capricorn. Now, in my relationship with Jesus, I live under the sign of the Cross.
In some ways, we are all being lured into a too-casual form of faith that is void of any inquiry regarding who and what is behind its appeal. That casualness is dangerous. It causes us to accept without question the practices and ways of thinking akin to foreign gods that are cleverly masked and have become as familiar as a daily newspaper posting of a horoscope listed right next to the cartoon section.
In the most challenging times in our lives, those pursuits will not answer our deepest questions in a time of trial. Only God can do that because He knows our hearts and loves us with a redemptive love.
Scripture asks us, “Where are your astrologers, those stargazers who made predictions each month” (Isaiah 47: 13). In those times when we want to hear clear direction from the Lord, He will be there to provide all we need. We just need to turn off all the other voices and listen.
Hahaha 😂
Good one, Garris!!!!
As a young girl we had neighbours who worked in a newspaper…he told us that they got a pile of “ideas”, put them in a hat, drew them out and just assigned them to each of the star signs….
I’ve never believed in them and now I think God taught me this lesson way back then.
I’m thankful to know a great and wise God who has a perfect plan for my life…. I just need to listen to Him for the directions
