Just before taking Communion together this morning, Jan and I were praying in the Spirit. I saw an image. President Trump was standing alone in a hallway. An attacker came from behind him with a raised weapon aimed at the president’s head in an attempt to deliver a death blow. But his weapon met resistance and absorbed the attack. The resistance was the prayers of God’s people surrounding President Trump.
The president represents our government and its leaders. This kind of prayer is not partisan or based on whether we agree or disagree with our leaders. It is the command of Scripture to pray for our leaders.
I believe what I saw in the Spirit was an urgent and immediate warning to intercede now and to keep interceding so that weapons of dark spiritual forces and works of evil formed against our nation cannot prosper and would not find their intended mark.
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
