God puts people in places of authority for purposes we may never fully understand. Whether they remain in that position for the full course of God’s intended purpose, on the one hand, is a choice they must make, but ultimately God will determine the longevity of their service.
Nothing in this life is sure – no political system, societal structure, or expression of religion. Neither are those who lead those institutions. Only God is absolute, all-powerful, and unchangeable, not people or the systems they represent.
Our hope should never be placed in those whom God has positioned in a place of leadership to exercise His will, no matter who the person is or the role they might fulfill. Above all the promises made to us or the dreams we hold dear, our hope must rest only with God and God alone. Everything else will eventually disappoint us when we discover that we invested our time, energy, and resources in cycles of human failure reaping only a harvest of sorrow and disillusionment. Those failed investments will eventually lead us to a place of bitterness because our hope was misplaced.
“He changes the times and seasons; He removes kings and establishes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning” (Daniel 2:21).
