Who presumes the privilege of being close to the Lord—living next to Him in His shining place of glory? Who are those who daily dwell in the life of the Holy Spirit? Who will never be shaken—who will stand firm forever?

King David answered that question in Psalm 15:1-4: It is the one who is passionate and wholehearted, sincere and always speaking the truth because their hearts are trustworthy. It is the one who refuses to listen to rumors and gossip, or refuses to slander and insult others, causing harm with their words. It is the one who speaks out against evil and evil workers but commends the faithful ones who follow after the truth. It is the one who keeps their commitments and follows through, even at great cost. It is the one who never crushes others with abuse or exploitation. It is the one who would never be bought with a bribe against the innocent.

The privilege of being close to the Lord and to stand firm forever is not reserved for the well-educated, for the naturally intelligent, or for those who appear successful by the standards of this world. It is not defined by what we accomplish or possess. None of those natural issues are the doorway. It’s defined by who and what we choose to pursue, no matter what station of life we occupy. 

David’s answer could be said in one phrase: led by Holy Spirit wisdom and revelation, speak the truth in love.
