There is no spiritual giant that can stand before us and overcome our faith if we are trusting in God. While the confrontation with Goliath made David famous in Israel, it was not the end of giants living in the land. The remnants of this race of giants, descendants of Goliath, were what many believe to be the offspring of the Nephilim, a race of giants created by the union between fallen angels and humans.
Later in his life, David entered a battle and became exhausted and defenseless. A giant faced David and was ready to kill him, but a fellow warrior in David’s army intervened and killed the giant before he could harm David. Each subsequent battle would manifest a giant. One giant was a brother of Goliath. In yet another battle they encountered a giant with six fingers and six toes. As the series of battles ended, Scripture tells us, “These four Philistines were the descendants of the giants of Gath, but David and his warriors killed them” (II Samuel 21:22).
When we face a spiritual giant assigned to destroy our faith, we have one weapon a giant cannot defend against – our faith in God. Originally, when David faced Goliath, he brought to the battle only what he knew and had proved faithful in the past in his conflicts while defending the sheep of his father in the wilderness. Giants do not need a special spiritual gift or anointing to bring them down. The defeat of a giant comes when we employ what is familiar in our lives directing the stone of our faith into the threats of a giant.
Spiritual giants sent to taunt God and His people are roaming the land. They are declaring we have no chance for victory. That lie is like a magnet drawing a person of faith into the battle to challenge the giant’s authority. When we have faced and defeated a single giant we can be tempted to think the deal is done. Giants roam in packs and will appear in strategic moments of our faith where they must be challenged once again.
When a giant arrives they want to make us feel ill-equipped, but the simplest exercise of our faith, the size of a mustard seed, will become the stone that will defeat a giant’s plan of attack. Don’t be afraid of giants. They are simply the targets of our faith.
“That lie is like a magnet drawing a person of faith into the battle to challenge the giant’s authority.” This gives a whole new perspective to our reaction as we listen to the many falsehoods being uttered in our world today!
