GOD’S PROPHETIC CHOIR

The prophetic gift within the Church is like a choir. This prophetic choir produces a multi-dimensional sound. Each person sings within a personal assignment as varied as soprano, mezzo-soprano, contralto, countertenor, tenor, baritone, and bass. A choir of pre-pubescent voices creates a treble sound.

While the core message of prophetic words will create the by-product mentioned in I Corinthians 14:3, “strengthen, encourage, and comfort”, the delivery of a prophetic word will be accomplished by the unique sound assigned to the individual delivering the word. When that unique sound is added to the global prophetic ministry it will create the content of a larger message the Lord is delivering.

We need to be careful to not reject those parts of prophetic ministry that are not to our liking and may sound foreign or even disagreeable to our personal preference. If we think a prophetic warning is too harsh, we might neglect the message to our peril. If all we want to hear are the tender renderings of an alto voice, we may not like the more profound sound of truth provided by bass-sounding prophets. If we have not allowed our faith to accept the high and low-pitch sounds made by more challenging points of theology, we will be drawn only to the treble sound of an immature voice.

There are times when one form of prophetic delivery will step forward in God’s timing to become a solo backed up by all the other prophetic voices. These solos platform a word delivered at a particular moment in history.

Today, there is coming forth an increasing number of warnings sung as prophetic solos. They are not divisive. They are part of the larger harmony of prophetic words the Lord is releasing. The Lord is wanting to gain our attention. Do not become preoccupied by the messenger or their method of delivery dismissing the sound of their warnings. Those who heed these words of warning will, after a season of turmoil has run its course, be strengthened, encouraged and comforted because they did not reject what was spoken.

More important than the individual sounds the global prophetic voice makes is the One who is directing the chorus of these voices. Under His direction, He is bringing these voices together as a unified chorus of prophecy to speak to the Church and to the world words that heal, offer direction, and warn us of what is to come.

    great and timely perspective, Garris.

when we realize that we each are responsible to prove all things and hold fast what is true, our appreciation increase for those who courageously sing or speak prophetic words
