We have seen three attempts on the life of President Trump, fueled by deranged thinking. It is not surprising that some mentally unstable person would be willing to attempt an assassination, believing the President is so evil that he deserves death. They see their actions as a chance to be remembered in history as heroes, just as others have been elevated. 

Over the last 10 years, politicians, social influencers, the Hollywood elite, media personalities, blog posters, and the unseen hand of opposition worldwide have fomented justification to kill—even the killing of a President. We are living in critical times worldwide. Division and evil are surfacing in ways not seen in recent memory. We need a solution to the madness being exhibited. 

The prayers of the Church are a powerful force against the advancement of evil in our government and on our streets. Paul wisely wrote, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Our hearts need guarding—what we believe, think, and act on. The spirit of the age is asking people to follow its lead. If we fail to guard our hearts and minds, we will be led to agree with dark agendas rather than the leading of God’s Spirit.

There is a solution. It is prayer.

When our worry turns to dismay or despair, we can pray.
When we feel overwhelmed by acts of evil, we can pray.

We will not pray for those we see as our enemies if our hearts are hardened against them. May we first begin praying about the condition of our own hearts. “Above all else, guard your hearts, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23).
