There are times when a word from the Lord will not sound like a word from the Lord. This happens when a prophetic word is not offered in a way familiar to our history or current level of understanding. When this happens, the word’s validity must be examined based on the heart of God, not our preferences or experience. A religious spirit will often demand conformity requiring a familiar sound or content before a word is accepted. God is creative. He can speak a word through someone that sounds so new and unfamiliar in its content and delivery that we might take offense. Before we correct or condemn a prophetic word, we need to ask the Lord for discernment to show us where our limited understanding and experience might be affecting our ability to hear something new.
