While all prophetic voices sit around the same table of fellowship with the Lord, not all of them will bring the same message. The prophetic voice of the Church is a collective voice. It expresses a unique assemblage of revelations offered from different perspectives.
In the last few years, I have felt the Lord leading me to gain a greater understanding of the uncomfortable realities of life. I have been exploring the points of application of our faith in areas of politics, finance, and law. Some of those issues, unless exposed and challenged will bring unnecessary pain and sorrow to the uninformed. Without a prophetic interruption of our assumptions, we will continue to live blinded to what is really taking place.
The colloquial phrase “in the weeds” refers to being in over our heads. It is described as a preoccupation with the complexities of something that leads a person to become overwhelmed and lose focus. The only way to walk in the weeds of life and remain a voice of truth and reason is to purposefully keep our heads high above the tallest weeds in the weed patch. Stepping into the weeds to see prophetically what is taking place and remaining spiritually whole requires we stay head and shoulders above the issues by keeping our eyes fixed on the Lord. Only then can we walk through the weeds and properly interpret the issues with clarity and not lose hope.
This prophetic walk in the weeds requires ongoing and deepening expressions of worship to stay above the choking effect of the weeds. Frequent communion becomes vital where the wine and the bread keep our hearts aligned with Jesus and overcomes the blinding effect of the tallest of the weeds. A life of worship and communion will help us rise above ground-level “revelations” where people continue to grovel with other weed-bound voices revealing nothing but angst and suspicion.
Good things to ponder for the new year!
“A Prophetic interruption of our assumptions ” word for the year.
In Golf, “landing in the rough” is a good euphemism for being “in the weeds.”
That is, we are committed to “hitting the mark” (striking the ball to land on the green, and into the hole) but a mis-hit, an adverse wind or a wayward bounce has resulted in our ball being in the rough.
Skill at hitting “recovery shots” is required to restore our forward progress.
May we “hit the mark” in 2023.
