INTERPRETING THE SOUNDS OF TRUTH

Our home was built 80 years ago. We still have the original wood floors. When we moved into our home 22 years ago, we discovered that someone had painted over the wood floors. After we moved in, Jan and I spent a couple of weeks removing the paint to expose a beautiful wood floor.

Over the years, I have become familiar with the sound our home makes when someone is walking across the floors out of my eyesight. I can tell when a person has entered the living room or when they cross the threshold of the back door. The sounds place people in a particular spot within our home.

God’s truth expressed in our world is like the sounds made when someone is walking across the wood floors of our home. The expression of God’s truth does what it has done since the beginning of time. It announces a presence. This announcement is not always an announcement of joy and peace. It can reveal conflict and division.

We should be listening to the world around us. It is making a sound. The sounds that truth is making happen when it comes into conflict with deception. These sounds let us know where God is revealing Himself. The sound can be a call to prayer, a response of faith, or, in some cases, a warning to flee. Those who listen and interpret the sound of truth and respond to the sound under the leadership of the Spirit will be used by God in the most profound ways in the coming days. They will become the prophetic interpreters of this time in history. We need these interpreters and their prophetic interpretations because without them we will lose our way not responding to what we are hearing in faith, but in fear.

“Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He’s the one who will keep you on track” (Proverbs 3:6).
