In the current stormy sea of human opinion, if our goal is to find answers for everything that’s taking place, our peace will be robbed. 

In a time of cultural storms like the one in which we now find ourselves, only what the Lord says can promise peace, not another human opinion. Those who maintain their peace and spiritual sanity in times of social storminess are those who have chosen to direct the course of their lives by either a verse of Scripture or a prophetic word. Those verses and words provide a faithful compass heading for life.  

I recently heard a phrase that caught my attention. It was “leading indicators.” It’s a term from the financial investing world. A leading indicator is used by an investor to point toward future events enabling them to develop an investment strategy as they try to anticipate developing market conditions. There is a spiritual parallel.

A single verse or a prophetic word can secure the integrity of the hull of our faith and keep us on course when so many are sinking due to fear and indecision. We don’t need to know all that’s taking place in our world. What we do need is a promise from God that no matter what waters of life we navigate, the word of the Lord will get us through the current storm offering us the safety and peace that only a trusting faith can provide.

Like it is for a wise financial investor, so it is for us. The leading indicators of God’s truth will be able to direct our course through the storms of life leading us to a sheltered harbor of fulfillment for what God has promised.

It is time for each of us to retrieve and review what the Lord has spoken. Those words, not human opinion and the storms they create, will be used by the Lord to steer the helm of our faith into the future.
